I am diabetic and high blood pressure?

Treat aggressively. If you have both diabetes and hypertension you need to treat aggressively to protect heart, brain, kidneys and eyes. You do need exercise and weight loss and you need at least an ACE inhibitor or ARB to protect kidneys from both diseases.

Find the cause. Swelling (edema) is just a symptom which is due to a specific disease or combination of diseases. Taking a water pill only treats the symptom but does nothing to treat the disease. I think one the most serious conditions that needs to be excluded is a type of heart disease causing this. Other possibilities include kidney, liver or thyroid disease to name a few. A work up is needed. Read more...

I am diabetic (type 2) and have high blood pressure. What can I eat?

Lots of things. With diabetes & high blood pressure, eat more veggies/fruits per day (7-9 servings), lean proteins like poultry, fish, bison, lean beef, and complex grains like quinoa, brown rice, oatmeal, and multigrain breads/pastas but limit these to 2 servings/day. Lose weight so eat about 1200cal/day if female and 1600 if male: 1 600cal meal, 3 200cal snacks. Decrease the alcohol, soda. Drink water! Read more...
