Is it possible for the brain to swell even after recovery from a stroke?

No. The brain swelling associated with a stroke typically maximizes within 24-36 hrs, and gradually diminishes over the next several days.
Not really. Swelling can and does occur in normally responsive patients to inflammatory insults such as strokes. However, once a stroke has occurred and the inflammatory phase is complete- consolidation begins to occur. Once that process is complete and the brain is "healed" no further swelling FROM THAT STROKE can occur. If inflammation or swelling does occur down the road it is due to something else.
