I'm in Ontario Canada & want to know protocol w/ medical file when Doc retires. Shouldn't they transfer file to new doc? Mine is charging for copies.

In brief: Charges

In NOrth America it is the norm to pay if you want copies of your medical records.
There is a cost factor associated with this.

There should be no charges involved, if the retiring doctor has to transfer files to his successor. You may need to give consent for him to do so. If you decide you want to see a different doctor than his successor, you may have to pay for it.
