Dissapointing. Too bad. Fish oil raises HDL and lowers triglycerides. Looked good!? But clinical studies failed to show any reduction in strokes or heart attacks. That's where it's at. Heart & brain. We don't have good randomized controlled trials demonstrating benefit of fish oil, aside from lowering triglycerides (at expense of raising LDL cholesterol), but most observational studies suggest benefit with regards to heart health. Some studies suggest brain benefit too but these are less rigorous trials. Better than popping pills is eating wild caught fatty fish (but don't fry it!) regularly. Read more...
