Metformin is often prescribed for conditions in which liver enzymes rise (the non-alcoholic fatty liver family), and when these are present, the enzymes can rise late.
I'd only conclude metformin is the cause if hepatitis B & C, Wilson's, alcohol, other meds (ibuproten can do it), autoimmunity are ruled out, liver's not fatty, and withdrawing metformin resolves this.
