In brief: Depends

If you have symptoms like pain , distention , etc or not ( a symptomatic ) If stone duration is long standing , with no symptoms in 75 yr old could be left alone , with just observation by the physician, If symptomatic need removal of gall bladder which is a low risk procedure after medical clearance .

In brief: Explore alternatives

The standard treatment for gallstones is removing the gallbladder. I believe this should be the last resort rather than initial treatment.
I've had many patients have great success with natural therapies to dissolve gallstones & flush them out of the liver/gallbladder.See http://tinyurl.com/kkb7bv6 & http://tinyurl.com/k8se88k & http://tinyurl.com/khf8elb & http://tinyurl.com/c5o6dr8 Good luck!
