In brief: No

Seeing a doctor sooner is better than waiting for later. If pregnant, early prenatal care is better for your baby as prenatal vitamins can be started that much sooner. If desired, one can do a home pregnancy test prior to that appointment.

In brief: Pregnancy test

You didn't mention whether you've taken a pregnancy test.
If it is negative, repeat it in a week. If still negative, you may see your doctor, as the second most common cause of missed period after pregnancy is anovulation. He may start you on pills that will "jump start" a period for you. If you don't do so and indeed dealing with anovulation, it will start on its own, yet the bleeding will be.

copious, prolonged and still requiring to see a doc to stop it this time.

you can see your doctor now, however, really there is no urgency with that. Even if you start bleeding later and it is abundant, you will still the same type of pills that you would take to make you start one. I'd personally wait another week or two and have another pregnancy test done.
