In brief: May not need

With those numbers, you may not need a statin.
The ncep atp-3 goals are all met by you, even if you are at high risk, which would be an LDL less than 70. Keep up the good work, save your money and continue your diet, it appears to be working. Best wishes.

In brief: Statin

As you have good lipid levels, you are looking for the nonlipid benefits of statin.
There isn't any evidence there's a difference between the drugs for this effect. Of those you listed Simvastatin or Atorvastatin are probably what i'd choose though can't say prava wouldn't be as good.

In brief: What other meds?

Most statins are metabolized by same pathway.
Two notable exceptions are pravastatin and rosuvastatin. Choices will depend on your other medications, and perhaps insurance or other cost concerns. As far as dose? The lowest dose available for each drug would likely be sufficient.

In brief: LDLHDLnotCholesterol

Cholesterol is made by every cell in our body & promoted because less $ to measure than the correct issues (low density lipoprotein particles & high density lipoprotein particles) not because it is the correct issue.
This has been known since before 1950. Get NMR particle test before getting lost in the usual nonsense. I have answered many times on healthtap, esp question 191964. Please review.
