In brief: Yeast

If it’s your 1st possible yeast infection or you aren’t sure if it’s yeast – see your dr. Some tx options include vaginal cream, ointment or suppository for sev.
Days (7 to 14 days sometimes). Otc meds include Monistat (miconzole), vagistat-1 (tioconazole), femstat (buoconazole), Gyne-Lotrimin or mycelex( clotrimazole). Otc meds don’t work ? See your dr. S/he may order Diflucan (fluconazole) (oral antifungal).

In brief: Exam, probiotics

Vaginal infections that don't respond to the over-the-counter creams may not be yeast infections.
Bacterial vaginosis and other vaginal infections may cause similar symptoms. You should have a pelvic exam so your doctor can look for those things. If it is yeast, you may need a longer course of medicine. You may also need to help "good bacteria" grow by taking probiotics or cultured yogurt.
