It could be related to breath-holding. Holding your breath while lifting heavy weight could lead to vessel congestion of the head and neck. When you run, you breathe at a regular rate and there is no buildup of pressure in the chest and the veins can empty. Just a thought, but when your doctors clear you to resume exercise, see if you can identify a difference between light and heavier weights.
