Probable causes of left shoulder blade pain?

Muscle spasm . The shoulder blade is suspended by the superior trapezius and rhomboid muscles. When chronically stressed these muscles can go into spasm. Muscle relaxants, massage, acupuncture, biofeedback and heat can reverse the spasm. A good therapist to help is a physical therapist.

Muscle strain. This is likely a paraspinal muscle strain or a paraspinal ligament strain. These can often be triggered by some unnoticeable event (sleeping in an awkward position, lifting and object, twisting abnormally) where a muscle and/or ligament is stressed, causing inflammation and pain.
