In brief: Careful /Caution

Infected ingrown toenails can be serious.
Usually caused by impropper cutting of nails or breaking off corners. Cut toe nails straight across. If infected, try lifting up the corner& packing a small amount of cotton under the nail. Soak in soapy water & dry well & apply antibiotic oint. Wear open toed footwear. If pus & streakng see md or podiatrist for eval. Many need a procedure & antibio.

In brief: In office procedure

Ingrown toenails are easily resolved via an in office procedure where the toe is numbed and the offending border(s) removed.
In some cases a permanent correction can be performed.

In brief: See a podiatrist

If you havea chronic infected toenail, you need to see a podiatrist for possible antibiotic treatment and the surgical removal of the edge of the nail to stop if from happening again.
