In brief: Usually
Over the counter antihistamines such as Cetirizine and ranitidine work well.

In brief: Hives
First, you need to find out if they are truly hives.
Second, hives have many many many causes and you might want to find out what is causing them. A quick fix i recommend is to start with an over the counter non-sedating antihistamine (cetirizine) once to twice daily. Topical anti-itch cream can help. But seeing an allergist might really be the best option with a lot more ideas.
