Can you have staph infection in or on the butt?

In brief: Sure.

Staph lives all over (ubiquitous), common skin germ; certainly can cause skin infection on buttock.
Not a likely bowel germ, so not likely to be "in" butt, unless spread from skin source or spread from elsewhere. Can get perianal abscess (pus pocket) from inflamed/infected anal glands-usually not staph though.
