In brief: Prostaglandin
Some women produce too much prostaglandin hormone just prior to and during their cycle.
If you're not sensitive to Aspirin products, or one of its cousins, these will generally help a lot. I recommend 2 Aleve (naproxen) 2 times a day starting the week before your cycle is due. This frequently prevents many of these symptoms. Healthy eating especially a diet for hypoglycemia is also helpful.
