In brief: Too many to say
Neck pain is a very common complaint.
Improper support of the neck while sleeping is common. Trauma of course is a cause. As we age or due to occupational reasons, the neck can degenerate and cause neck pain. Rheumatologic conditions can cause neckk pain. Too much to cover here. If a problem, you need a good evaluation, history and exam and nperhaps x-rays and other testing and then treatment.

In brief: See below
There are several joints and intervertebral discs in the neck.
These can wear out over time leading to pain. Degeneration of the joints or discs can cause neck pain, headaches, and shoulder pain. You can also get neck pain from a muscle strain. In some cases pain in the left side of the neck could be related to your heart so be sure to see you physician.

In brief: See pain specialist
There can be several reasons for neck pain including disc degeneration or bulging, muscle inflammation/strain, facet joint arthritis/irritation, nerve irritation as well as tension and stress.
A thorough physical exam and diagnostic studies will help determine what treatment will be best depending on your diagnosis. See a board certified pain specialist for evaluation.

In brief: Depends
There are a lot of potential causes of neck pain.
Arthritic conditions of the spine and myofascial pain syndromes are probably the two most common causes. Eachpotentially has different treatments. Thankfully, most cases respond to simple thinds such as rest, moist heat, and the use of antiinflammatories. If symptoms persist, seeing a professional to determine the cause is reasonable. Thanks.

In brief: Neck pain
The neck pain can be caused by muscle strain, spinal stenosis, ruptured disc, nerve impingement .
.. The treatment depends on the cause of the pain. I recommend you seeing help from a pain management doctor. You would benefit from a comprehensive evaluation and treatment.
