Patience. Dr. Kohl's answer is correct. The prescription medications available are not a "magic " cure. At best research demonstrates that they only shorten the course by a day or two.This is true for otc medications if they work at all.And they always resolve on their own. Until a better cure is available, we need to patient.
Patience, pain meds. Cold sores are uncomfortable blisters which typically appear on the face, usually near the mouth brought on by stress, such as a new common cold-hence the name. Usually children only need Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain relief. Many over the counter creams and herbs are available, but none are proven to work. Contact your doctor if they occur frequently, a prescription cream may help.
