How can I tell if this kidney pain is dehydration or a kidney infection?

In brief: Pain

The easiest way to tell if there is a kidney infection is to have your urine tested for infection.
A simple urinalysis can show if bacteria or white blood cells are present. The answer may require more testing however ( a urine culture or blood tests even).
