In brief: No it's not

It can be bursitis.
You can ask for ultrasound examination of your hip and a steroid injection if necessary.

In brief: It can occur

Sometimes the growing baby will irritate a nerve in your back when you are pregnant.
Unfortunately, not a lot can be done while you are pregnant other than some stretching exercises and tylenol (acetaminophen). Yoga and physical therapy are excellent options.

In brief: Options

Ligamentous laxity of the pelvis, preparing for the baby's exit strategy, is a common cause of back and hip pain during pregnancy.
During the first trimester, conservative care should be the mainstay of treatment but later, injections of local anesthetic +/- steroids into these sore areas, can be helpful and are usually quite safe. Talk to your ob.
