What is the risk that an adult in his 20's will get brain cancer from getting one CT scan?

Not very significant. With one cat scan of head the risk in men is 1 in 11080 and in women is 1 in 8100, there is also lot of variations in radiation exposure from one place to other. This was published in archives of internal medicine in dec 2009.
0. One head ct scan radiation dose is about the same as one chest x-ray. One will not get enough radiation exposure from one ct to cause any issues.
More common than. Winning the powerball lottery, in the range of being struck by lightening (about 1/10, 000).
Very low. The risk of brain cancer or leukemia is 1/10, 000 for a head ct in a child 10 years or younger, if the ct scan is done at normal radiation dose. Most places now have a low dose protocols for head ct scans for children. In the adults, the risk is lower. The benefits in clinically indicated ct scans outweight the risks.
Zero chance. Not enough irradiation to cause any problem, and certainly does not cause brain cancer.

I had a brain ct scan in the ER which I feel was unnecessary. I deeply regret this and I'm afraid I'll get brain cancer from this scan. Please help.?

Yu're unnecessarily. One CT scan does not cause anyone cancer. it takes more than 10 CT scan before such a thought should come to your mind. Medical use of X-rays/CT scans(done once a year or so) is safe. So quit worrying about this incident.. Your brain will be fine for a long long time! Read more...

I've had at least one CT scan (possibly 2...Would they have done one after my craniotomy from a hematoma?). Am I at a higher risk of brain cancer?

Doubt it. There's some studies suggesting that children who have a bunch of of ct scans over long illnesses are at some extra risk for leukemia and perhaps brain tumors; this makes sense biologically but the risk isn't huge. I wouldn't waste energy worrying about just one or two; i'd be glad instead that the hemotoma's out and i hope you'll do well from this. Read more...
Was your hematoma. Subdural or epidural? These can be lethal more the latter than the former. Liam neeson's wife, miranda richardson lost her life to this. I emtion this because getting your ct was needed to make the proper diagnosis. Brain tumors are quite rare. Your chance very slightly increased, even if there was 2. I'd celebrate your life and forget the tiny risk. Read more...
Unlikely. It is acceptable to do a post-operative ct scan to assure that the clot has been removed and that new ones have not developed. The risk of brain cancers from ct scans has not been demonstrated statistically. In the pediatric age group there may be an increase in leukemia/lymphoma. Most hospitals are pretty sensitive to possible increased risk of cancer with ct scans and have decreased the dose. Read more...

Is it ever that a CT scan causes brain cancer years late if it done at young age?

Almost nonexistent. One CAT scan of brain does not have enough radiation to cause any harm, and even several over time would be benign. Why do you think of a brain cancer? Would a Concierge visit help?? Read more...
No, there. is no scientific evidence to support the notion that the amount of radiation from one CT would cause a cancer. Read more...

Could MRI or CT scan detect brain cancer?

Sure. Mri would be the imaging test of choice, though often we start with a ct. Ultimately, you'll likely need a biopsy to prove it's a cancer. Read more...

Is it possible for MRI or CT scan to detect brain cancer?

Yes. A CT scan can detect a brain tumor, but will be better able to detect a tumor if it performed with IV contrast. Mri with contrast can detect very small tumors that may not be seen with a ct scan. . Read more...

Please tell me, could MRI or CT scan detect brain cancer?

Yes. Any of those tests, particularly the mri, could detect cancer in the brain, be it one that started in the brain itself or one that came from elsewhere. Of course, no test is perfect and if the cancer is small enough, it might not be seen with either scan. Read more...
