My front tooth is rotting. Now, little bits have started to chip and half of the tooth has turned brown down to the gum with a sharp edge in the middle front of the tooth. What should I do?

In brief: Time for a checkup!

From what you describe, your tooth has been decaying for some time now.
You are probably way overdue for a dental checkup. See a dentist for a complete and thorough exam, along with whatever x-rays are appropriate and get all your dental work done. Waiting just results in more pain, aggravation, less teeth and more cost.

In brief: Question?

Let us know if you have a specific question, it sounds like you have a broken down tooth that may or may not be restorable.
See a dentist for an evaluation. The longer you wait the more the tooth will break down. Your dentist can also talk to you about replacement options.

In brief: Tooth Decay

Most likely you have a large cavity in the front tooth.
Make an appointment with a dentist asap. The tooth is turning brown because plaque is accumulating behind the face surface and not allowing the light to go through the tooth.

In brief: Seek treatment

This discoloration is most likely tooth decay and is most likely into the pulp or nerve of the tooth.
Make an appointment with a dentist for an x-ray and appropriate treatment. Which may include root canal therapy and crown or extraction. If the decay is not in the nerve it may require a large filling or crown. This can lead to infection so treat as soon as possible.
