What does it mean if my white cells are low and my liver enzymes are high. I have had hep c for 14 yrs?

Need context. We need the context of why these labs were done, as well as any symptoms (and other labs/baseline labs) before we can even begin to make an educated guess as to what these numbers mean.

It's possible... it is possible to have normal liver enzymes and still have hepatitis C. More typically, however, are mild elevations of the ALT or AST. If you have any risk factors for hepatitis C infection, or if you were born between 1945 and 1965, you should get tested for hepatitis C. Good luck. Read more...

Wouldn't your liver enzymes be up like your ALT and AST if your hep c was getting worst?

Not always. The AST and ALT are signs that the liver is inflamed. It takes a while for Hep C to do this sort of damage, and so many with Hep C go years without seeing elevation in these. A "viral load" that shows how much virus is circulating in your body/how your immune system is fighting it is a better indicator, and a liver sample/biopsy is the best way to tell. Talk with your doc and see what is next. . Read more...
