In brief: Hormones: estrogen

If you are truly menopausal at age 38 you run the risk of having severe estrogen deficiency related diseases: osteoporosis being the first that comes to mind.
Estrogen is the best hormone to treat hot flashes and prevent problems. Some women need testosterone added to control the symptom as well.

In brief: Hormones

Early menopause exposes you to many years without the benefits of hormones.
If you are able to take hormones, i would strongly recommend low dose hormones.

Early menopause will lower your risk of breast cancer much more that taking estrogen replacement would increase it. You are also at higher risk of heart disease and osteoporosis, and both can be mitigated by hormone replacement

early menopause can also be a sign of other problems and should be thoroughly evaluated by a physician.
