In brief: Lots of causes

Is there a fever? Exposed to anyone else's sore throat? Strep or flu or other virus.
Salt water gargles can help. Do you snore or sleep with your mouth open? Do you get heartburn? Those can also cause sore throat. If needed doctor can prescribe antibiotics and help with pain.
