In brief: MRI?

If you twist and injure the ankle, ligaments are not the only structures that can be damaged.
If pain persists, bone and cartilage injuries may also be present. I would certainly consider follow up x-rays and an mri.

In brief: Time to reevaluate.

Sounds like it is time for a change.
Perhaps your physician should order an MRI to see the extent of injury. If the tendon is not compromised, then it may be time for rehabilitation.
