Blood test said I had high uric acid. I was told come back after 3 months for blood test (no alcohol or red meat). Will one night out affect it much?

Sorry. Once a gout attack is triggered, it is difficult to stop. High uric acid levels do not correlate perfectly with risk of experiencing a gouty joint. If a night out triggers gout, most patients would agree that it was not worth it. However, if it does not, most patients will agree that it was worth it. Read more...

How long should it take fire a genetic blood test to come back? I have been waiting 6 weeks.

Need A frm Gen, Path. I don't want you to wait any longer for an answer so I am referring this to our genetics doctors and pathology/lab directors on ht. The answer will depend on the type of test and specimen, but they can give guidelines. Thanks for your important question. @drpam. Read more...
It depends. The "turn around time" for a genetic test result depends on the test, the lab, where you live, the weather, and the system through which the specimen and the results will flow. Some simple tests, like the 23-mutation cystic fibrosis screen, take a day or two; some very complicated tests, like massively parallel whole genome sequencing, can take months. Ask your genetic counselor to check for you. Read more...

I drink quite heavily and I'm due for a alcohol blood test in two weeks time. How long will it take for it to be clear on test?

Quickly. Once you are sober your levels of alcohol will be zero. However, you may fool the test but you cannot fool mother nature. If you are drinking too much you will end up paying for this one way or the other. Your liver tests if abnormal can be elevated for weeks. Read more...
Depends/ metabolism. In the average individual, 1/2 of the existing ethanol will be out of the system in about 1/2 hour, but this is effected both by loading (continuing to drink) & the livers ability to metabolize the product. If your liver cannot remove the product as fast, it stays longer.Abstaining for at least a day should clear most, but longer may be needed.
