Lean meats or fish, fat-free cottage cheese and eggs are excellent sources of high quality protein without much carbohydrate.
In fact if you eat nothing but the above for a whole day, you may develop the carbohydrate deficiency condition called "ketosis" or "ketonuria". This is not a good thing, but is the basis of appetite suppression (it makes you feel sick) in the adkins diet.

Calorie count is less important if the food is nutrient dense. Almonds in particular contain heart healthy fats and have the unique property of increasing HDL or healthy cholesterol. Beware of hydrogenated vegetable oils that are found in most processed nut butters.
