I'm a dancer and I have a sharp stabbing pain in the arch of my foot that extends up to my ankle. Is this plantar fasciitis?

In brief: Tendonitis

It could be but the more likely cause of your pain is a tear in the posterior tibial tendon which helps to support the arch.
Most dancers can get this because of the extreme positions they put the foot in. I would recommend seeing a specialist as soon as possible in that this type of injury if left untreated can ruin a dance career.
