Hi I have sore throat with a bit of runny nose for the past week should I go to a doctor and get antibiotics?

See doctor. Most sore throats and colds are caused by viruses which do not respond to antibiotics but sometimes they are caused by bacterial infections (ie: strep throat, staph infections) which need to be treated with antibiotics. The doctor can take a throat culture which will help to identify if you have a bacterial infection and require antibiotics.

Sounds as if your doctor knows exactly what they are doing. Get well and thank your doctor. Salaam. Read more...

Call the doctor. Although you may be right, I strongly recommend you don't stop your medication without informing your doctor. He/she certainly has more knowledge about your current condition, so the doctor needs to be involved. Good luck. Read more...

Sore throat, runny nose, malaise since 3 days! Will resolve spontaneously if viral! How do I know for sure that it's viral & not bacterial? Antibiotic?

Probably viral but.. Individuals with sore throat are more likely to have a viral etiology, especially if sore throat is associated with cough, runny nose, sneezing, or eye discharge. The only way to be sure is to get strep test. I would suggest try throat lozenze such as sucret until you see your primary care provider. Read more...
