Coughing up blood is an indication of injury to your breathing passages or lung tissue.
It can be seen with things all the way from throat irritation to pneumonia to tuberculosis to pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs) to lung cancer. It is therefore a potentially worrisome symptom which needs to be investigated by your physician asap.
