My four and half year old daughter has severe constipation since she was a year old. What is suitable diet for her? Also is there any treatment?

In brief: Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Benefiber

Chronic constipation stretches the rectum. The urge to go decreases & children withhold.
The stool becomes drier & harder leading to painful & difficult movements. It requires lengthy & persistent treatment to allow the rectum to regain muscle tone. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is a tasteless, odorless powder that increases the water content of stool. Talk to your pediatrician. Goal: one soft stool per day.

In brief: Whole grains

Her doctor should have the chance to look for any cause if not done already.
At this age it is worth trying to go without any milk products for a few weeks. Lactose intolerance sometimes causes constipation in children. Then water, staying active, and a whole grain diet with fruits and vegetables are the best options. Avoid cheese. Miralax if needed would be ok.
