I breastfed for 6 wks, then soy formula until he was 3 months. Now he is on reg infant formula and has diarrhea. Is he ok? Was it bad to switch?

In brief: Ok relative to what?

If the diarrhea is not a big volume its unlikely to hurt baby.
Are things like juices or foods really to blame for the runs instead? While your child may not have a true cow milk allergy or intolerance, something in the product may not agree with him. Soy is an adequate formula for the first yr so unless u are cool with the runs, i'd go back to soy.

In brief: Probably OK

It will probably be ok.
Stick with the same formula and watch for growth. His bowels will probably adjust just fine, and as long as he is growing normally, don't worry. Very few children actually need soy formula, they just aren't given a good trial on regular formula. Spitting and diarrhea are common concerns, but changing back to soy usually does not fix these.
