In brief: Osteitis pubis

Abdominal muscles pulling on the periosteum of the symphysis pubis can cause inflammation to the bone and cause pain.
This is much more common than a stress fracture of the pubis. Treatment is initially symptomatic with withdrawal of the exercise or activity precipitating the pain and Ibuprofen to manage discomfort and inflammation. Associated fever, redness, etc suggests osteomyelitis pubis.
