In brief: Yes

If you chose to have the procedure, then an mr arthrogam can be done with injection of local anesthesia and steroid into the hip joint at the same time.
The procedure can be relatively painless with an experienced doctor, and can help determine if the symptoms are due to a problem in the hip joint or outside (ie: bursitis is outside the joint capsule).

In brief: Order of events

Hip pain can be debilitating.
It is frustrating to have mult treatments with no relief. Your md may be trying to r/o inflam in the joint and doing the treatment prior to MRI may subsequently influence what is seen on the MRI - but this is speculation. Of course if you are feeling uncomfortable with the plan it is ok to ask for a 2nd op from another specialist. Wishing you all the best.
