In brief: Sort of
Fish oil in moderate doses can help lower triglycerides and has modest effects if any on HDL and ldl.
Too much fish oil can raise ldl.

In brief: Helps decrease TG
Fish oil 2-4grams per day of epa omega 3 can help decrease triglycerides.
Omega 3 can be marine or plant based. Marine sources are epa (great for heart) and dha (can be vegetarian forms as well and is better for mental health and neonatal brain development). Vegetarian ala (flax seed) need double the doses of epa to work for cholesterol.
