My son has fever for 6 days took him doctor and given biaxin (clarithromycin) for ear infection biaxin (clarithromycin) taking it for 4 days?
Should be better. For young children, biaxin (clarithromycin) not the most efficacious antibiotic. If still with fever after 4days, either the drug is not working or wrong diagnosis. Call the doctor.
My doctor prescribed an antibiotic called Biaxin (clarithromycin) to take for 7 days because I have an ear infection. Is this enough to cure the infection?
Yes. Biaxin (clarithromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic and should cover the typical and atypical bacterial pathogens causing otitis media.
I have a middle ear infection and my doctor changed the antibiotic from Biaxin to Cipro (cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin) because it didn't help. Will cipro (ciprofloxacin) cure it?
Unaswerable. Without knowing what is in the middle ear fluid, it is impossible to answer your question. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is an adequate antibiotic, but if you are not allergic to penicillin, Augmentin is the drug of choice. If the cause of the fluid in the middle ear is the result of a virus, no antibiotic will help. Your question is unanswerable because we do not know if there is a bacteria in the middle ear.
My doctor changed the antibiotic to Cipro (ciprofloxacin) because Biaxin didn't help treat my middle ear infection. Will Cipro (ciprofloxacin) cure it?
Antibiotic. You don't say what you are being treated for, what the causative organism is, whether it is sensitive to the antibiotics that have been prescribed, etc. Cannot possibly answer your question without more data.
My son was given biaxin (clarithromycin) for bronchopneumonia and an ear infection. Will it help him?
Probably. This is an antibiotic and if the germ is sensitive to its effects it will help. Regardless of the treatment selected, some antibiotics will not work on certain germs because of antibiotic resistance to that or several medications. Persistence of symptoms or worsening should trigger a call to the doc to notify them of the issue.
What do you suggest if my son was given biaxin (clarithromycin) for bronchopneumonia and an ear infection?
Take every dose. Even if he starts feeling better. Tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever and discomfort. Drink lots of fluids.
Wait or change Rx. Studies have found that most ear infections will resolve spontaneously by 6 weeks, but if causing severe pain or fever, or accompanied by sinusitis, then change in antibiotic would be indicated. Both H.flu and M.cat bacteria may not respond to Rx with Biaxin, (clarithromycin) and switch to high dose amoxicillin-clavulanate. If allergic to amox, (but not hives) use cefpdoxime or cefuroxime.
My sisters 2 year old has had a ear infection on Clarithromycin for 4 days. He is couging and gurgling with each breath and is breathing 21 per min?
See MD. If there are signs of respiratory distress. A respiratory rate of 21 is ok for a 2 y.o., but if he is "gurgling" or having difficulty breathing he should be evaluated by a Dr. If he is lethargic, not feeding, poor color, nostrils flaring, and/or you can see his ribs retracting with each breath, then he needs prompt evaluation.
I started taking clarithromycin for an ear infection, but now the ear that was not infected is ringing, is this a temporary side effect?
Otitis media. Sounds like the other ear might be getting infected too. We deal with resistant bacteria in ears all the time. May be you need something stronger than clarithromycib to clear the infection. You need to see you doctor again.
