In brief: Let me explain

Inside a woman's body, sperm can live for up to five days depending on the conditions.
If you have unprotected sex even a few days before your partner ovulates, there is a chance of achieving a pregnancy.

In brief: Takes just one sperm

It takes but one sperm, and one egg, to produce a pregnancy.
The pre-ejaculation fluids (pre-cum) contain sperm, at times millions. Withdrawal is not a very effective means of birth control pill. Use a barrier (condom) every exposure.
