In brief: Yes, but rarely
Bone infections can be difficult to manage due to reduced circulation to the infected tissue.
However, if treated by a specialist, 6 to 8 weeks of appropriate antibiotic will cure most osteomyelitis.Reasons for recurrence include: presence of a foreign body (prosthesis), inappropriate antibiotic, poor antibiotic absorption, lack of surgery to remove infected bone & weak immune system (ie. Diabetes).

In brief: Maybe
Acute osteomyelitis will be diminished once the source is removed.
Sclerosing type which includes actinomycosis, might go to remission and then return. Once the bone is resected, the disease is cured.
