Complex question. Depends on situation. For alzheimer's, cholinesterase inhibitors such as galantamine (galantamine hydrobromide) can help (really just slows decline). If adhd, stimulants can help (probably also helps those w/o adhd). If depressed, antidepressants help. But if anxious, benzos prob don't help memory. Some antiseizure meds like topamax don't help. Yes. Even mild hypertension (HTN) sustained over yrs is associated w/ greater cognitive impairment in later life. To mds, "uncontrolled" means really high bp. It's called an urgency when not controlling it within 24 hr will lead to permanent injury (or death), and an emergency when ditto within 1 hr. Unlikely. The vessels of the eye generally are not affected by ordinary levels of high blood pressure. If the systolic approaches 200 and the diastolic gets over 160 - very dangerous levels - then there could be bleeding in the retina or fluid leaks which can alter vision.
