Depends... You may only need formal physical therapy for 2-3 months after acl reconstruction; return to high demand sports/activity generally takes 6 months' minimum; if you have allograft (cadaver graft), i often delay cutting/pivoting/agility/other high demand sports until ~9 months. Talk to your surgeon about his/her acl rehab protocol, your activity goals; time in rehab also depends on how you progress.

Plate maturity. This question needs to be directed to the surgeon that recommended the repair. The growth plate could possibly be affected, depending on the status of the plate opening and the surgical technique . The question of repairing or not repairing has more to do with how the knee might be affected later. The possibility of future meniscal tears and cartilage damage could be increased without a repair. After an ACL knee surgery would the knee be the same as before (good) if not. Why? Thanks

See below. Alot of people do very well after an acl repair. If you don't have meniscal tear, cartilage damage, tear of ther ligament and the surgery went perfect, chance of return to normality is high. Be careful not to injure it again. If the patellar tendon is used as an acl graft, degeneration of the patellar cartilage may occur so be careful with it and do well with physical therapy. Read more...
