In brief: 11 years

Pre med (3-4 years), then medical school (4 years), then pediatric training or residency (3 years).
Well worth it... Good luck!

In brief: College & med school

When you apply to colleges, look for strong premedical programs with good acceptance rates into med school.
In college, there are required courses for med school but take electives in other areas to be well rounded, too. Find volunteer programs to work with kids. In med school, keep volunteering with kids and take pediatric rotations. Next is a pediatrics residency (3 years)!
