Over the counter. There are a variety of combination "flu" otc meds that can help. Ask yourself which one of your symptoms are the most troublesome and look for combination that best will treat those symptoms. Believe it or not your local pharmacist can often point you into the right direction. Just ask nicely at the counter :).
Treat symptoms. Start with symptomatic relief. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or an otc antiinflammatory. Drink plenty of fluids as hydration is very important. If your symptoms do not improve within 3 or 4 days you may want to consult with your physician. If you have difficulty swallowing and can't drink then you need to see a doctor right away.
All around are sick (flu) my body is fighting it. Have a moderate persistent sore throat. Should I take medicine as if having a full blown flu?
Influenza. Unless you have been definitively diagnosed with influenza by a swab demonstrating its presence, your symptoms may be due to a dozen or more different viruses (adeno, parainfluenza, and so on). Antiviral therapy with tamiflu (oseltamivir) will be ineffective against these, and you should see a doctor and be evaluated before doing this. Good luck.
Clivus chordoma patient having flu Stiff neck and sore throat Her body is paining due to fever What will be best medicine to take away this flu?
Neurologist this am. The treatment for flu is symptomatic Tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen. The stiff neck means you need to contact the treating neurologist this morning. Viral infections can sometimes cause meningitis. That could cause a stiff neck (rather than the chordoma). If you can't reach him/her she needs to go to an urgent care center or ER.
How long should one have a sore throat before being seen? Going on 9 days now with no other symptoms of a cold or flu. Pain with swallowing. Worse in morning but last all day. I take prilosec.
Be seen. Please consider being seen now to be checked for strep throat or mononucleosis which can be contagious.
I have a little sore throat, and it hurts me as if I were to give flu. What I can take so that I can remove the pain and inflammation?
Gargle w/ salt soln. Common causes of sore throat separate from tonsillitis or viruses are postnasal drainage from allergies or laryngopharyngeal reflux, acid spilling into your throat when you sleep. Try gargling with some warm salt water mixed with baking soda (recipes abound on the internet). If your symptoms persist, see your family doctor or an ENT specialist.
I have had a temp for 2 days and a very sore throat, feels like it's closing up. I have been taking cold and flu medicine but am not getting better?
See a doctor now. The sensation of throat closing is concerning. If you are getting a peritonsillar abscess you could end up with severe problems swallowing and breathing. Don't wait. Go see a doctor right now.
Seroquel (quetiapine) Short-term & as needed, yes.
Probably ok. At normal dosing it is probably ok. There can be an interaction between Seroquel (quetiapine) and the pheniramine in the flu and sore throat medicine. It can cause cns depression. Also there are many other OTC medications for cold and flu symptoms that you could take instead.
