In brief: Add Miralax (polyethylene glycol)

Constipation or stool holding is not uncommon at 22 months of age.
It is very difficult to make a toddler eat the required amount of fiber/juice daily to overcome hard stools. To treat the stool holding/constipation i recommend 1/2 capful of MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) daily-an otc stool softener-adjust the dose so your child has 1-3 soft easy thin stools daily. I would continue it for 4-6 months.

In brief: Maybe, likely not

First and foremost, this could signal a bigger problem such as hirschsprungs disease or something else and those need to be explored.
But those are uncommon and unlikely. To treat constipation, fiber is key. Diet must contain fiber, and daily. At this age you need 15+ grams per day. As reference, an apple has 3 gms, wheat bread has 1g per slice, broccoli 3-5 gms, etc. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) daily helps as well.

Pedialax or Miralax may help if there are no other medical reasons for the constipation. In this age, children have more control over their bowels, so the more they withhold stooling, the more water is absorbed which leads to harder stools.
