In brief: Uncommon but yes

It is true that you can still get pregnant after your tubes are tied.
But having tubes tied is one of the most effective birth control. Despite the superb protection, if your period is late, shorter or lighter than normal, or you feel pregnant, always do a pregnancy test to check.

In brief: Yes

Tubal sterilization, while very effective, is not 100% effective (depending on the precise surgery done, it is 95-99% effective).
If you miss you period and/or feel pregnant after you have had your tubes tied, you should check a pregnancy test and/or see your md asap as you are at increased risk for a tubal (ectopic) pregnancy, which can be dangerous! good luck!
