Slt is preferred it is less destructive and can be repeated.
Alt can be used in older patients but is really considered an extinct proceedure by most ophthalmologist.

ALT is definitely not extinct and is an equivalent procedure in efficacy. Some patients who do not respond well to SLT will respond to ALT.

ALT is as you mentioned used in non responsive patients but almost extinct as a primary proceedure.
