In brief: Maybe
Hpv causes most cervical cancers, at least half of all vaginal, vulvar and anal cancers and is now shown to cause over 75% of all head and neck cancers, plus most non-melanoma type skin cancers.
That adds up to 10's of thousands of deaths per year in the us alone and that is a ton of risk. Hpv is a deadly, albeit slow to cause death, virus and vaccination is a huge help.

In brief: Not directly
Hpv normally just causes warts.
However, it can cause cervical cancer in women, which can sometimes be fatal.
