Can taken Nexium (esomeprazole) tablets for acid reflux cause extreme tierdness and weakness? Thanks

Headache most common. Side effect. You could have muscle weakness due to anemia (about 1%) or low potassium/magnesium (<1%). Talk with your doc about stopping your medication and doing an experiment! if you stop it and your energy returns, then it's probably your nexium (esomeprazole). Sometimes we have reactions that are uniquely us, and that's important too!

I've been taking Nexium (esomeprazole) for approximately 5 years, for acid reflux, is there any consequence on taking this pill for so much tiime?

Some concerns: Long-term acid suppression may allow helicobacter to flourish. Recent studies suggest long-tern ppi use may increase risk of osteoporosis; so getting adequate dietary calcium 7 vitamin d3 & weight-bearing exercise are very important preventives. Ppi's may also predispose to clostridium difficile-related diarrhea. If one has difficult-to-control diarrhea, one should see doc 2 b checked. Read more...

My dr. Put me on Nexium (esomeprazole) for acid reflux! Can it cause pain all over my abdomin?

It should not. There are some cases of worsening of abdominal pain/cramping after taking nexium (esomeprazole). But if the pain is all over or worsening, go to the urgent care or er right away. Notify your dr as well. Avoid caffeine, soda, alcohol, spicy foods etc. Hope u feel better! Read more...

How does acid reflux cause dysphagia if my GI did a endoscopy 2X which shows my esophagus as normal. I have no acid reflux symptoms? Nexium (esomeprazole) fixed this.

Inflammation. Dysphagia was probably caused by inflammatory changes due to reflux. A biopsy would have shown inflammatory cells. Nexium (esomeprazole) decreases the acid so decreases the inflammation which will make the dysphagia go away. Check the pathology report to see if your dr did a biopsy of esophagus. Read more...
EGD can be normal. I think you already asked this question. EGD can be normal even if there is reflux. The precise mechanism probably doesn't matter. If no serious disease was found, and you feel better with Nexium, (esomeprazole) smile and enjoy being symptom-free. Read more...
GERD/dysphagia. Nexium (esomeprazole) suppresses acid production in the stomach. While your esophagus is normal - you may have mild gastritis which can cause similar symptoms. What did the endoscopy show with regards to the stomach?? any hiatal hernia?? you need to press the GI doc for more answers. You can also try non drug treatment - antacids, raising the head of your bed slightly, and avoiding caffeine products. Read more...

Been on Nexium (esomeprazole) 40mg daily for 2 weeks! I still have acid reflux all day. Had recent weight gain 15lbs in 4 months in abdominal area, is that the cause?

Esophagitis vs GERD. Sounds like you may have something more than just reflux. Should try another of the PPI meds such as omeprazole or lansoprazole. If this is not effective you really need to see your doc to understand why these are not getting you relief. Read more...
Weight gain. Nexium (esomeprazole) is unlikely to cause weight gain. But the weight gain may indicate another problem in the abdomen which is contributed to the reflux symptoms you've been experiencing. Read more...

Fatigue. There is a very long list of conditions and situations that lead to fatigue, so many other factors must be considered. A full evaluation includes analysis of daily habits and lifestyle (are you getting enough sleep?) plus a full medical history and exam to look for systemic causes. It's unlikely but not impossible that the Nexium (esomeprazole) is contributing, if the fatigue started after beginning that med. Read more...

Can acid reflux (gerd) cause dizziness and anxiety? Was prescribed Nexium (esomeprazole) twice daily, doc said the acid burned my throat, it was pretty bad.

Maybe. Acid reflux may be causing your anxiety, but in my opinion, it may be the other way around. Your anxiety may have been part of the cause of your acid reflux and dizziness. Alcohol may also be a culprit. The medications you are taking also need to be considered. Consult with your treating physicians to take a thorough look at your entire medical history, and make changes accordingly. Read more...

Does nexium (esomeprazole) take 6-8 weeks to fully heal esophagus acid reflux?

Erosive esophagitis . How long it takes for erosions in the esophagus to heal depends on how large they were to begin with. It can take that long, but they often heal more quickly. People often need to stay on Nexium (esomeprazole) even after erosions are healed, to prevent the GERD that caused the erosions in the first place. Many people need long-term maintenance medications. Good luck. Read more...
