In brief: U Can, But Huge Risk

Call nat'l assn of anorexia nervosa & related disorders (neda) helpline: (630) 577-1330.
About 24 million people in us have an ed. Anorexia nervosa = the most fatal mental disorder: about 10% w/ anorexia die from suicide/starvation/metabolic failure/other. Those w/eds often resist/refuse treatment &/or often relapse. Quality care can be hard to get b/c of cost. More via neda: http://bit.Ly/16crmyh.

In brief: Why not get help?

Conditions like anorexia and depression are serious, and can be life-threatening.
Their treatment is complex. You might accomplish some things on your own, but this isn't likely to "hold" long-term. There are aspects of yourself you cannot see, and which can sabotage you. Why not use available help? Psychotherapists can help greatly; also medications may be of use for some symptoms as well.

In brief: Recovery

This is such an important question.
Although depression can get better on its own, anorexia usually does not. Also, until the depression gets better, you can be at great risk because of the way depression makes you think and feel - hopeless, helpless, guilty and despairing. Thoughts of suicide and attempts to end your life are a grave risk. So please, don't wait, and reach out for help and support
