In brief: Usually but depends

Hives are usually annoying and not serious but often a mystery.
.. The cause not always figured out. Treatment depends on many factors that an allergist would determine during a consultation. Hard to be more specific here.

In brief: Identify cause first

Ideally, identifying the cause and treating the cause.
Symptom relief can be achieved with over-the-counter antihistamines such as Loratadine 10mg daily in the meantime. Causes may be ingested foods or exposure by contact such as animals or plants.

In brief: Can be frustrating

Acute hives (<6 weeks) are usually due to a viral infection or food or drug allergy.
History & testing can reveal the allergic cause. Hives will not return with avoidance. Chronic hives (>6 weeks) are often a form of autoimmune disease or a heightened fragility of the cells that release histamine - cure not usually an option. Daily antihistamines work a lot better than medication used "as needed".

In brief: Cure: No; Tx: Yes

Seeking an allergist for full evaluation is the best option.
There is rarely a cure, and even finding a cause can be difficult. Yet, the best initial approach is to try an over-the-counter antihistamine since hives are usually a manifestation of histamine release in the body.
