I . I am so sorry that this patient has had to go through all of this. I am assuming that the patient is under the care of an excellent vascular surgeon. The patient should be on optimal medical management including blood thinners if the vascular surgeon thinks is appropriate. It does. It does inhibit platelet function. It does inhibit clot formation in veins. Its just that venous clots aren't quite as serious an issue. We worry about clots in the arteries to your heart that can lead to heart attack or an artery to your extremity leading to cold leg or arm.
